Dr. Menton de Franca Alencar nasceu em 1843 na cidade de Mecejana, Ceará. Foi um grande cirurgião brasileiro, o primeiro a realizar a transfusão de sangue no Brasil e na América do Sul. Participou da Guerra do Paraguaí e recebeu honras militares. Faleceu em Fortaleza em 1893.
